Andrea Motis

Andrea Motis is a singer, trumpeter, and saxophonist from Barcelona. Motis has released 11 albums under her name that span the full spectrum of her interests, from classic jazz to funk, including Brazilian music. In addition to her collaboration with Quincy Jones, she has shared the stage with other legends such as Milton Nascimento, Omara Portuondo and the Buena Vista Social Club, esperanza spalding, and Yo-Yo Ma. In 2026, tshe will present "To Amy", a tribute to one of her iconic artists –Amy Winehouse– alongside a large ensemble, the Barcelona Gospel Messengers, and the Andrea Motis Guitar Trio, with guitarists Jurandir dã Silva and Josep Traver, an intimate and subtle project that will also be released as an album in February 2026.

Biography

Andrea Motis (Barcelona, 1995) is a singer, trumpeter, and saxophonist. In 2011, at the age of 16, having gained recognition on the scene thanks to her work with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and as a soloist in the quintet she shared with Joan Chamorro, she had the opportunity to work with Quincy Jones, who said of her that she played the trumpet like Harry “Sweets” Edison and the alto saxophone like Johnny Hodges, and that she also sang like Billie Holiday. Jones was not speaking merely as a fan, but as a musician who had shared friendship with all of them, absolute references for the then young artist.

Motis has released 11 albums under her name that span the full spectrum of her interests, from classic jazz to funk, including Brazilian music. In addition to the aforementioned collaboration with Jones, she has shared the stage with other legends such as Milton Nascimento, Omara Portuondo and the Buena Vista Social Club, esperanza spalding, and Yo-Yo Ma, who also invited her to take part in his duet album Notes for the Future, performing the Catalan folk song El cant dels ocells.

Her upcoming projects for 2026, to be premiered at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, are To Amy, a tribute to one of her iconic artists –Amy Winehouse– alongside a large ensemble, the Barcelona Gospel Messengers, and the Andrea Motis Guitar Trio, with guitarists Jurandir dã Silva and Josep Traver, an intimate and subtle project that will also be released as an album in February 2026.
