Biography

“The most in-demand drummer these days” (Le Monde), Gautier Garrigue won the prestigious Django Reinhardt Prize from the Académie du Jazz in March 2026, an award recognizing the musician of the year. He was also nominated in the “Revelation” (Breakthrough Artist) category at the 2025 Victoires du Jazz.
Described as “one of the most sensitive and refined drummers on the current scene” (Jazz Mag)—noted for a style characterized by “rare subtlety and intensity” (Jazz News)—he topped the rankings for drummer of the year in both publications in 2024 and 2025.
A drummer, guitarist, and composer born in Perpignan in 1987 and a graduate of the Conservatory in 2002, Gautier Garrigue quickly made a name for himself on the jazz scene by collaborating with a host of prestigious artists, including Michel Portal, Seamus Blake, Christian Scott, Emile Parisien,
David Enhco, the Belmondo brothers, Logan Richardson, Baptiste Trotignon, Kyle Eastwood, and Enrico Pieranunzi—as well as Yaron Herman, Vincent Peirani, Theo Croker, Thomas Enhco, Bojan Z, Géraldine Laurent, Paul Lay, Walter Smith III, Chris Cheek, Jakob Bro, Uri Caine, and Paolo Fresu.
A prominent musician, he has already recorded around forty albums—five of which are with Henri Texier, who has taken him under his wing since they first met in 2017.
He also gained recognition as a co-leader of the group Flash Pig, with whom he won the 2025 "French Record of the Year" award from the Académie du Jazz for the album *The Mood for Love*.

In the autumn of 2024, he released *La Traversée*, his debut album as a leader (on the Pee Wee! label). This highly anticipated, profound, and resolutely free-spirited record received unanimous critical acclaim (earning distinctions such as *Coup de Cœur* from the Académie Charles Cros, a *Sélection* from France Musique, *Révélation* from *Jazz Magazine*, and an *Indispensable* rating from *Jazz News*). The album, featuring his own original compositions, brings together—for the first time—Henri Texier, Émile Parisien, Vincent Lê Quang, Federico Casagrande, Maxime Sanchez, and Florent Nisse.
A second album of original compositions, centered on the themes of space and the cosmos, is currently in development. It is set to be recorded in the autumn of 2026—featuring Ben van Gelder, Nelson Veras, Yaron Herman, Adèle Viret, Maxime Sanchez, and Sylvain Romano—and will be released in the autumn of 2027 via the Pee Wee label.

Alongside his career as a musician, he became a professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot in 2025; he also teaches periodically at the CMDL and the CNSM, and conducts masterclasses around the world.
